buildOn Helps Hope for Haiti Pass Out Emergency Supplies to Hurricane Sandy Victims
As the United States’ East Coast endures Hurricane Sandy, our friends in Haiti are struggling to rebuild their lives after the havoc the hurricane wrought on the Caribbean. buildOn was helping Hope for Haiti provide emergency relief from flood victims in Haiti this weekend after the hurricane hit the island on Thursday.
John Marek, buildOn’s Haiti Country Director, said that thanks to Hope for Haiti’s preparedness, buildOn was able to distribute emergency buckets with flood relief supplies to 50 families in the community of Rousseau in Gros Marin. Many of those families lost their homes completely. Hope for Haiti and buildOn also sent supplies to two locations in Cavaillon: the Villa des Tournesols orphanage and the of Notre Dame du Bon Secours de Cavaillon clinic. Both locations were struggling with the flood and were grateful for the help, Marek said.
The hurricane claimed 51 lives in Haiti and destroyed many bridges, buildings and crops. Read more about Hurricane Sandy’s passage through the Caribbean here.
