buildOn Organizes Service Projects for Chicago Students During Strike

Over 350,000 students are currently not attending school in Chicago due to the Chicago Teachers Union strike. This week buildOn would normally be recruiting students and hosting meeting with students at the high schools where they work, but that will be postponed until the strike ends. Today buildOn Chicago program coordinators made plans to organize service projects with various service partners for their students enrolled in afterschool programming. The coordinators have been reaching out to current buildOn students to start planning projects. Meanwhile, staff are leading educational games at the “Children’s First” sites – churches, community centers and public areas supervising children of working parents for students who have been displaced by the strike.
