Members of the Movement: Team Hollywood
Actor Travis Van Winkle and his friends, or “Team Hollywood” as they call themselves, are looking to reshape what it means to be an artist in Hollywood by using their talents to give back.
This past Sunday (Feb. 15, 2015) the group raised more than $35,000 for buildOn at their Love:Life Event at Sunset Bronson Gower Studios in Los Angeles, California. The event featured food from some of L.A.’s best food trucks, a silent auction and a show filled with unforgettable performances by talented artists and musicians.
Overall “Team Hollywood” has raised $87,000. Their ultimate goal is to build schools in Malawi and Nepal, and to fund a trip for 15 Detroit high school students in buildOn’s Service Learning Program to construct a school in Haiti.
Thank you to the amazing artists who participated in the event: Charles Michael Davis (CW’s Originals), Geoff Stults (Fox’s Enlisted), Kali Hawk (Universal Pictures Couples Retreat), James Kyson (NBC’s Heroes), Quddus (TV Host), Tommy Savas (NBC’s State of Affairs), Briana Evigan (Lionsgate’s Step Up), Erin Cahill (ABC’s Red Widow), and Rachel Skarsten (Focus Feature’s Fifty Shades of Grey) to name a few.
Travis and his team have now committed to building two schools per year with buildOn moving forward. Stay tuned for details about next year’s Love:Life event.
