A young Haitian boy stands on the dangerous bridge he must cross to get to school

Why We Walk: Boris’ Story

Every morning, a young boy named Boris from Garratte, Haiti must cross a dangerous footbridge to reach his school. When it rains, the wooden planks become slippery, making each crossing a frightening challenge. Yet Boris perseveres, because like so many students in Haiti, he understands that education is worth every difficult step.

Last month, we broke ground on a new school near Boris’s community. We’re also working with his community’s pastor to repair the footbridge that so many students must cross. Soon, learning won’t be such an arduous journey for the people of Garratte. This is a huge step forward for this community. But there are countless other students across Haiti who face similar challenges just to reach their classrooms.

This is why buildOn’s Steps for Students challenge is so important. Every dollar you donate helps us build more schools and remove barriers to education in communities like Garratte.

Will you help build safer paths to education for students like Boris?
