Continue to Celebrate MLK Day of Service

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?”
—Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

MLK Day was yesterday and it made us all question,  what are YOU doing for others? Help us continue to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  by choosing to step up, step forward, and make a difference.

Need somewhere to start? Consider what buildOn chapters did across the country at last year’s MLK Day of Service. Together, they taught children about Martin Luther King’s life, painted murals, distributed donated clothing, and more.

If you’re looking to reach a broad group of people, try organizing an event, such as a park cleanup, neighborhood fitness event, or gardening project.  Awareness campaigns like walks can be a point of unity among neighbors and provide a way to utilize the group’s strength to advocate for a certain cause.

If you’re thinking of starting a larger campaign, be sure to research your issue and reach out to local figures who might have some insight. Also try reaching out to community organizations to see if there’s some way you can help increase their impact. Don’t forget to spread the word to your family, friends, school, sports teams, or faith groups to inspire others to serve with you!
