Greenwich High School Students Fulfill ‘Josie’s Dream’ By Building a School in Haiti
Josie Day passed away two years ago at 16. Everyone who knew Josie, a student at Greenwich High School in Greenwich, Connecticut, loved her for her incredible enthusiasm and spirit. It was her dream to return to Haiti, where she grew up, to help rebuild the country after the devastating earthquake in 2010. Unfortunately, she she never made it back.
Several students who attend Greenwich High School and Rye Country Day School banded together to honor Josie and fulfill her dream. They are raising money to build a school in Haiti this summer in her memory.
Nearly 50 percent of the population in Haiti is illiterate. This statistic shocked Lucas Dell’Abate, who is helping the group raise money by DJ-ing a dance fundraiser at Arch Street this Friday. “I realize the importance of education as the only way to help (the Haitians) break the cycle of poverty.”
